The hottest band in Malaysia at the moment, Estranged never fails to rouse a crowd with their energetic fist-pumping music and introspective lyrics. All over the country, fans have been wowed by the Estranged sound, a blend of nu-metal, alternative and hard rock, with even grunge thrown in the mix. And it looks like the band is set to rock fans down at MTV World Stage “Live in Malaysia” with their high-tempo tracks.
Since winning the Best Song Award at the Anugerah Juara Lagu music competition in 2008, Estranged members Din, Nor, Azwin and Rich have progressed at breakneck pace, chalking up two albums under their belt, including one hit single, “Itu Kamu”. Their sophomore album, “Remain Unknown”, comprises 8 English and 5 Malay tracks, centering on niggling environmental problems, social mishaps, and political anomie. “This World” is a melodic, yet profound take on the global destruction of nature. True to their rock roots, head-banging riffs are strewn all across the album, such as on tracks like “In No Time”, which never fails to get the crowd up on their feet and moving during the band’s live performances.
“We’re always looking for a new sound that brings fresh life to the music industry, and we never want to be limited when it comes to making music,” said Estranged frontman Rich, commenting on the band’s varied song repertoire.
Having impressed many with their music videos and live performances, Estranged has already added major festivals like Soundrenaline and Sunburst to their swelling gig list. The band is also slated to perform at one of the biggest festivals in Taiwan, the Ho Hai Yan Rock Festival. Looks like only the sky’s the limit for Malaysia’s finest rock act.
